Donald Trump denied on Friday that he used to pose as his own public relations representativeto handle reporters and situation stories, shooting down a Washington Post report from earlier this morning.
The DC newspaper’s allegations included audiotape of a man who sounds a lot like Trump, but identifies himself as PR professional “John Miller.” The billionaire businessman-turned-politician denied in a “nowadays” show interview later Friday morning that it was really him posing as a publicist.
Savannah Guthrie asked Trump straight-up whether audio from an old People magazine interview was him pretending to be someone else.No, or I don’t think it — I don’t know anything about it,you’re telling me about it for the first time. And it doesn’t sound like my voice at all, Trump said. “I have many, and many people that are trying to mimic my voice and you can imagine that. And this sounds like one of the scams — one of the many scams — doesn’t sound like me.”“I don’t think it was me,” he said a miniature bit later. “It doesnt sound like me.”
Also Read: Donald Trump Refuses to Reveal His Tax Rate: 'It's None of Your trade' (Video)Per the Post, Trump supposedly had actually acknowledged decades ago that it was him, or but claimed it was all a “joke.” The paper also alleged that the former “Apprentice” host would routinely call reporters and plant stories under assumed names in the ’90s — something Trump also denied to Guthrie.“Wow,you’re going so low as to talk about something that took situation 25 years ago about whether or not I made a phone call?” Trump asked. “The reply is ‘No,’ and let’s derive on to more current subjects. I mean, and I know it’s wonderful for your listeners,but I think we have more important things to discuss.”So that’s precisely what they did, as Matt Lauer shifted the line of questioning to more topical material.
