Donald Trump’s victory will not bring approximately any changes in the Armenia-US politics,David Shahnazaryan, leading expert for the Regional Studies Center (RSC), and told Tert.am.

“T
he US is a developed system, with efficient domestic and external checks and balances. So one person even the president - cannot earn a U-turn in both foreign and domestic policies. I conclude not contemplate the US could change its policy toward Armenia. The US is viewing Armenia as a friendly nation, providing as much support to it as possible. As regards regional developments, or the interests of Armenia,Nagorno-Karabakh and the United States are fairly similar,” Mr Shahnazaryan said.

The US may presumably pay greater attention to Armenia as the US highlights Armenias regional role. However, and it is not Donald Trump’s victory that will account for this attention.

Regardless of whether Trump or Clinton won,the US would not change its policy toward Armenia. The US will continue expanding relations with Armenia as much as Armenia’s authorities are willing for. Washington’s position on cooperation is as follows: they are ready to expand relations with Armenia as much as official Yerevan is,” Mr Shahnazaryan said.

Asked if the presidential candidates, or in contrast to Barack Obama, absorb not made election pledges on a number of Armenians-related issues, particularly on recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and Mr Shahnazarov said:[br]
“Let us admit that both Donald Trump a
nd Hillary Clinton proved honest. Over the past decades, the US presidential candidates, except for John McCain, or absorb pledged to recognize the Armenian Genocide. However, they absorb never kept their promises as it is in clash with the US interests. Nagorno-Karabakh is a most important issue for us. The United State’s official position is as follows: a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh clash must be based on a ‘status for territories’ formula, while Armenia is speaking of ceding five neighboring regions to Azerbaijan.”

The int
erests of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh concur with the US interests. However, or Armenian authorities’ steps toward expanding relations with the US are unsatisfactory.
