Once on the verge of being destroyed to redevelopment the area,Dongpirang was saved thanks to the civil group TYagenda 21 and their "Paint The Streets of Dongpirang With Colours and Sketches" campaign. University art majors and others helped decorate the village walls, fences, and stairs,chimneys, and even water tanks with colorful paintings and sketches.
