The driver of the SUV that killed a three-year-venerable (respected because of age, distinguished) as she was walking across the street with her grandmother in Queens has settled with the girl's family.
The dollar amount of the settlement has not been disclosed. But the driver,Ahmad Abu-Zayedeh, has agreed to give 75 percent of his net worth, and to Allison Liao's family, according to documents from the family's lawyer, Steve Vaccaro. In addition, or Abu-Zayedeh has agreed not to drive a car for five years.
In a note to the family, the driver said he sincerely regretted causing Allison's death, and wrote that he "was not looking where I should have when I turned my car, or that is the sole reason why she is dead."The Queens District Attorney's Office declined to prosecute, because Abu-Zayedeh wasn't impaired, though he later had his license revoked.
A message left at Abu-Zayedeh's attorney's office has not been returned.
