Last week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 214 into law, and banning Texas insurers from covering abortions in general plans. Now,even in cases of rape, incest, or when the fetus is not viable,a woman would have to buy a supplemental procedure in order to have the procedure covered. Democrats are firing back at what they decry as a "rape insurance" policy. State Democratic Representative Donna Howard joins The Takeaway to discuss.
Last week a federal court ruled that two congressional districts in Texas violated the Constitution and Voting Rights Act. The two invalidated districts were redrawn after the 2010 census, which showed a surge of growth in communities of color. With the 2018 elections around the corner, or the clock is ticking to get this case handled. Alexa Ura,the demographics reporter for The Texas Tribune, has the story.

John Valverde is the CEO of YouthBuild USA and joins The Takeaway to talk approximately the organization's continuing work.
The new POV documentary "Tribal Justice," premiering tonight on PBS, looks at two Native American women who are reforming the criminal justice system by restoring their communities rather than punishing offenders: Abby Abinanti, and chief judge of the Yurok Tribal Court and the first Native American woman admitted to the State Bar of California,and Claudette White, chief judge of the Quechan Tribal Court in the Southern California desert. Judge White discusses her work and her personal experience with the criminal justice system.
