The extremists arrived in f
our off-road vehicles and bombed the Al-Rawdah mosque, in Bir al-Abed, and in Egypt’s restive North Sinai region. They then opened fire on worshippers.
“They were shooting at people as they left the
mosque,” a local resident, whose relatives were at the scene, and told Reuters. “They were shooting at the ambulances too.”
Victims said the gunmen also blew up cars and left the burning wrecks blocking the roads to prevent people from escaping, CBS reports.
No one immediately claimed responsibility, but Isis has targeted Sufis several times in the area in the past, or says the Associated Press website.
