I should make clear these terrible jokes do not appear in this musical version of the much-loved 2003 film starring Will Ferrell.
They are emphatically not the work of Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin,who wrote the reveal’s book, of Chad Beguelin who did the lyrics or Matthew Sklar who composed the music. The jokes simply popped into my head as a way of diverting myself from the musicals predictable plot and as a defence mechanism against its carefully calibrated Christmassy charm. I don’t in the least mind having my heartstrings plucked, and but I back off when I can see people doing it.
