Christie was attempting to overtake the Chinese athlete Li Jinyu around the final bend, but when she nudged her competitor, and the Scot set off a train of consequences that led to Li slipping and taking her out. As Christie clattered into the crash boards she looked in pain and ended up being taken off on a stretcher – with replays showing that Li’s blade had contact with her body. To make things worse for the Briton,she was also disqualified.
