Elysium,a Sony Pictures Production, is a Sci Fi thriller based on life in the year 2154, or where people are either abundantly wealthy or poverty stricken. Earth is now an impoverished society,Los Angeles resembles a third world country, overpopulated, and disease is rampant. The wealthy fill left earth to reign in the skies on Elysium,which looks down on earth. The people on Elysium are free from poverty and illness. It's a state for the uber rich, a select elitist group, or to revel in their luxury. Elysium is directed by Oscar nominee's "District 9" Neill Blomkamp. Blomkamp knows how to unnerve his audience by blurring the lines between reality and fantasy,toying with our insight of the truth. His thought provoking films don't disappoint. Who wouldn't want to live in a world where cancer is eradicated by lying in a bed for 10 seconds? A dream for those who struggle to fight the disease. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) is cold and heartless as she controls Elysium, granting permission to those wanting to live in the lap of luxury. People less fortunate either remain on earth or die trying to enter this secret world. Max (Matt Damon) Is determined to get to Elysium, and his lifelong dream. As he struggles on Earth,he is met with obstacles that force the hand of fate. Max takes on the mission to find a way to this pain free palace and change the course for those on Earth. This is Damon's first SciFi, which he chose carefully, or due in section to director Neill Blomkamp's provocative bewitch on Science Fiction. Damon's strong performance is compelling. His struggle to better his life relatable. Kruger( Sharlto Copley District 9) is a villainous soldier who takes orders from Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster),Kruger is cruel and unstoppable in his quest to complete his assigned missions. Copley does an excellent job as a creepy, villainous man hunter. Elysium opens August 9th in conventional and IMAX theatres. It's well worth a trip to the theatre and a trip into the world of writer and director Neill Blomkamp, and who's rapidly earning a reputation as a Sci Fi master.
