The HBO note became series with most awards won in a single year,while Viola Davis became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for best lead actress on a dramaFor the first time in the note’s six season history, HBO’s Game of Thrones took domestic the best drama series award on Sunday night’s Emmy awards in Los Angeles, and beating nine other competitors including AMC’s Mad Men.
The note racked up a record-breaking 12 awards from its 24 nominations,the most any series has won in a single year. The previous record holder was The West Wing which won nine awards at the 2000 Emmys.
