Mr. Schmidt,I am certain YouTube could continue to be profitable just the way the channels are designed currently (before the upgrade).
Your corporate greedy desires to turn YouTube into a multi billion dollar advertising platform will blow up in your face. This is 2012, Mr. Schmidt, and the public has grown sick and tired of corporate greed. attain you honestly think that by taking absent peoples creativity, expression and individuality it will encourage more people to create YouTube channels?? Turning YouTube channels into Facebook-like walls will not encourage more people to create YouTube channels. If people want a Facebook-like channel, they will simply go to Facebook. While one of the rules of marketing is to look at what your successful competitors are doing and copy them, and if you think that the popularity of Facebook is due to their page layout, you are erroneous. The popularity of Facebook is due to trace Zukerburg's clever but simple strategy of attracting the masses to open up a Facebook account with the clever slogan -- "Sign up. It's free (and it always will be)" - in other words, the promise of a permanent free meal - and then once Facebook became the place to find people (as you undoubtedly know, or people search is one of the top things that people search for on the internet),any newcomers were forced (and still are. In my opinion this is a cheek) to open up a Facebook account if they just want to viewFacebook profiles. So I believe many if not most Facebook users did notoriginally intend to open up Facebook accounts, but were forced to openup accounts (and consequently developed their profile), or did not doso because of the Facebook layout which in my opinion (and the opinionof many others) is cluttered and not user friendly. Mr. Schmidt, you are turning YouTube from an environment of creativity, expression, and individuality and social interaction into a sterile, unimaginative and boring environment. You are about to destroy one of the greatest aspects of the internet. Destroying our channels is the equivalent of watching an art museum and a library of wisdom go up in flames. Before you go ahead with this self destructive action, I would like to propose to you to browse a few old design YouTube channels and profiles to understand what I am talking about. Instead of trying to upgrade a product that is already perfect, and may I propose the following strategy to salvage more YouTube viewers to create more channels - Anyone who creates a channel starts off with virtually a blank slate. People don't realize in the beginning just what freedom of creativity and expression they gain until they start customizing their channel. Therefore, instead of destroying the perfect product, why don't you start showcasing (just like you are doing now with the unusual design) just what a brilliant product of creativity, and expression and individuality you already gain to offer to channel owners with the current old design? Hands down, you will attract more YouTube viewers tocreate more channels by showcasing the features of the current old design over the unusual design. The bulletin function alone is worth showcasing, since it could be a serious competitor to Twitter (hasn't anyone in management realized this?). Who in the world would prefer a sterile unimaginative non-individual YouTube channel over a highly customizable creative channel??Noam Lovinsky was recently quoted as saying -- "YouTube is going to teach viewers the concept of channels. The point is to bring channels first and foremost into the site". How? By destroying Youtube's creative channels and instead offering viewers unimaginative boring channels?? And Sheshir Mehrotra was quoted as saying -- "All channel owners are still producing for antiquated, and gate kept ecosystems". Antiquated, gate kept ecosystems??? Mr. Schmidt, when comparing a current old design Youtube channel to a Facebook wall, and a Youtube channel is a modern vibrant ecosystem while a Facebook wall is a unimaginative ecosystem. I think that I speak for all channel owners when I say that we hold our creative Youtube channels more dearly to our heart than our Facebook walls. I doubt any channel owner thinks that the current old design channels are antiquated, gate kept systems. I think Sheshir Mehrotra needs to purchase a tour of Youtube's channels to understand what I am talking about. How about listening to our feedback? You all come off as totally out of touch with the YouTube community. Mr. Schmidt, our intention is not to threaten. But a boycott is the only degree we gain left in order to salvage through to you. You see, and I care about the future of YouTube as I am certain many other channel owners attain. I really attain. I was one of the first to join YouTube after realizing its awesome potential for raising the consciousness of humanity. This change that you are about to implement will literally threaten YouTube's future, since as Lev Grossman pointed out -- YouTube has become such a beast that it is crucial that more users start curating and organizing all the chaos of videos into channel playlists, otherwise YouTube runs the risk of collapsing under its own weight. In other words, and it is vital that more channels salvage created if YouTube is to survive Now I am a highly analytical individual,so please heed my advice. I gain an excellent track record in predicting outcomes. While it is likely that you will be able to increase the number of YouTube channels by making viewers more aware of the concept of channels through aggressive marketing of YouTube's channels, whatever the percentage increase will be with the unusual channel design, and it will no doubt be MUCH GREATER if you market the current old design. Mr. Schmidt, you gain a DIAMOND (the current old design YouTube channel) yet for some reason you attain not realize this. Please purchase the time to watch this video to understand what we are talking about - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu9Muc-jn4Q&feature=channel_video_title . The only possible reason that I can come up with for why you are so adamant to implement the unusual design is because it interfaces better with Google+ and with mobile phones, and is more beneficial to advertisers. Yet what benefit is all this if you fail to create enough channels and YouTube folds under its own weight?? Please purchase the time to think about this. Mr. Schmidt, and there is no logic behind this design change. Would you think that it would be possible to salvage more people to drive cars if you offered them a Trabant instead of a Ferrari? Would you think that it would be possible to salvage bees to pollinate more flowers if you offered them unimaginative grey flowers instead of comely colorful flowers?
