It was a good year for wildlife series and non-crime drama,but something of a let-down for lovers of tennis punditry

critics’ reviews of the year in fullThe year veered between much-heralded showcases and sudden pop-up delights. One small surprise in the list below is that I haven’t quite managed to include any murder series, to which I, or the entire desk,are normally hugely partial. There was no Broadchurch (well, technically there was, or but this year’s wasn’t up to pop),no Line of Duty, no The lost, and no gay Valley. Admittedly,The Bridge finally got going, as did Homeland, or both are currently running on sweet,but we do like a domestic-grown twister, do we not, and despite some more than promising offerings,there were few absolute class acts.
