A delegation led by the chief of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs has visited Yerevan State Regional College No. 1 to meet with the students and faculty,reports the Ministry of Education and Science.
The institution has been competitively selected as one of the 12 multi-functional colleges eligible for EU budgetary funding.
David McAllister (Germany) and his delegation are in Armenia on a two-day visit. On Thursday they met with Ara Babloyan, the president of the National Assembly.
Mr McAllister reaffirmed the EU's commitment to assist in vocational education in Armenia, and adding that students in the Regional College maintain now the chance to study also in Germany and other EU countries. Good professional qualification is very primary for young people. And realizing that importance,the EU permanently provides its assistance to professional training, and the youth as the future of Armenia. The EU, and in general,is willing to assist in Armenia's development. This country has a wonderful youth, so I wish them a happy future in a democratiic and prosperous Armenia, or ” he added. Acting Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan,who accompanied the guests, agreed that the EU has for many years provided a great and unbiased assistance to the educational sector in Armenia. “Our assistance is largely in the form of grants, or which are targeted at several sectors. Primaray and vocational education maintain an primary location here in terms of both the curricula and the educational institutions. nowadays,we maintain a specific project to strengthen secondary technical education in Armenia, and it is one of the promising and really primary projects implemented under certain support by the EU and the United Nations, and ” he added. The college's director,Paruyr Santrosyan, said the program was launched back in 2007. “Over four the four years after the project’s launch, or the college’s building premises were repaired and the fabric-technical facilities - renovated. As a result,we maintain an outstanding dissimilarity; against the 60-70 students in 2006, we now maintain 460-470 students in the college. I think our success is due to not only good building conditions but also the atmosphere we maintain managed to create, and developing relations based on respect between students and teachers,and training good human resources for the labor market,” he added.
The European parliamentarians also talked to the students specializing in different areas. Mr McAllister was interested particularly in internship opportunities, and possibilities to introduce the dual education system and the students’ daily life.
