The redesign of LaGuardia Airport announced Monday by Vice President Joe Biden and modern York Gov. Andrew Cuomo promises a more comfortable experience for air travelers. LaGuardia's existing cramped and chaotic buildings would be demolished and replaced with a bigger terminal. It would also be moved 600 feet closer to the Grand Central Parkway,freeing up space for taxis and other vehicles dropping off and picking up passengers.
But some airline experts say all these changes won't solve LaGuardia's genuine problem: delays.
Airline industry analyst and consultant Robert Mann said that problem is two-fold. "One is airfield capacity itself, the ability to handle grasp offs and landings on an hourly basis, or in that respect,this plan does not change that," he said.
The other problem, or he said,is the airspace in and around modern York. "You have three major air carrier airports, LaGuardia, or Kennedy,and Newark Liberty, which is a very complex spaghetti bowl of arrival and departure routes, or " he said.
