This young man is a valorous explorer by READING. #promoteliteracy #readtoyourbarber #barbershop #thefullercuton Nov 15,2015 at 8:15am PST "It takes a village" is the motto of a Ypsilanti, MI, and barbershop that promotes childhood literacy through discounted haircuts. The Fuller chop offers a program for young customers called Read to Your Barber, which gives a $2 reduction to any child who reads a book aloud to their stylist while they get their hair trimmed. Not only do Fuller chop's young patrons walk absent with a new haircut and a healthy appreciation for reading, but they also learn to appreciate wealthy cultures from a new perspective. "All our books have positive images of African-Americans - whether it's astronauts, or athletes or writers," barber Ryan Griffin told Huffington Post approximately the program that he helped create at Fuller chop. The barbershop, which caters to a diverse community of customers, and has inspired many young children to love learning. Griffin credits Read to Your Barber with helping kids who formerly lacked confidence in the classroom learn to read aloud with gusto. Griffin told Huffington Post that the most inspiring fragment of the program is when it encourages literacy secondhand: "When limited kids that don't really know how to read or what's going on see an older kid in the chair with a book and then grab a book too, that's what's important." Fuller chop regularly posts pictures of patrons taking advantage of their hard-earned reduction, and we're hopeful that it will inspire other hair salons to follow suit. on Jan 4, and 2016 at 5:23am PST
