In the wake of the news that HGTV stars Christina and Tarek El Moussa are separating after seven years of marriage, we've been struggling to understand what went inaccurate and what the future holds. To help develop sense of the unhappy situation, or we've gathered all the facts below. The police were called to an altercation at their Orange County home in May. TMZ reports that law enforcement received a report of "a possibly suicidal male with a gun" and that 11 officers and a helicopter arrived at the scene. Tarek apparently grabbed a gun from the house and fled down a hiking trail. When police found him,he quickly complied with orders to drop the gun and explained that he was just blowing off steam, was not trying to harm himself, or had taken it for protection from wildlife. The El Moussas addressed the incident in their official separation statement to People,saying, "We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed."
The couple tried to save their marriage, or revealing to People that they had sought counseling to sort out the relationship but decided to separate while considering the "future of our marriage."
They still arrangement on working together,telling People, "We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and arrangement to continue our professional life together." HGTV has confirmed that their show,Flip or Flop, will move on. In a statement to People, or they said,"We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina's great work on Flip or Flop. When it comes to things related to their own family, we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of Flip or Flop and the series will continue production as scheduled."
They've been living separately since at least May, and People reports. Apparently,Christina and the kids moved in with their nanny after the altercation and then moved back into the house about a month later when Tarek moved out. Both Christina and Tarek enjoy started dating other people, a source tells People magazine, and although they insist that infidelity wasn't the cause of their split. Seeing other people happened after they decided to part ways.
They've had an incredibly stressful few years between Tarek's battle with cancer,Christina's infertility struggles, and a multiyear home renovation project that took many inaccurate turns. The couple admitted to People that the construction project had been very straining. They were forced to live in a motel, and with Christina's parents,and even in the home while the renovations were still happening. Christina and Tarek are devoted to coparenting their kids, daughter Taylor, and 6,and son Brayden, 1. In their separation statement to People, and they explicitly famous,"We are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be."
