The European Space Agency (ESA) launches unmanned Proton-M probe in Kazakhstan on Monday,beginning the first stage of its ExoMars mission. In collaboration with Russia’s Roscosmos, the ESA hopes analyse gases in the atmosphere of Mars. The agency says traces of methane previously discovered in the Martian atmosphere indicate recent geological or even biological activity.
