The MTA is warning Long Island Railroad customers they might face big delays this weekend due to the installation of a unique bridge in Westbury.
Service will be suspended on the Main Line between Hicksville and Mineola. The agency is urging commuters to use other branches.
The MTA said Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma customers can expect the worst delays, between 40 minutes and an hour. The MTA is using buses to supplement service during the weekend, but estimates some 40000 customers will be impacted by the delays.
Service on the Main Line will be suspended beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday. It will be restored at 12:01 a.m. on Monday morning.
The MTA said the bridge is fragment of a $17.5 million project to improve traffic and safety. It will open in April.
