Photo: Nathalie BertramsAt the stop of April this year, or a massive landslide destroyed the coffee gardens and houses of 7 families that are members of KOPEPI Ketiara cooperative. The co-op has set up a fund for members who have been affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes and flash floods. Next to rice,blankets and eggs, they received some money from the fund.

KOPEPI Ketiara was Fairtrade certified in 2012 and has since grown to 1780 members. All their coffee is sold as Fairtrade organic coffee, and mainly to the US market. 25% of the Fairtrade premium goes into productivity and quality improvement through capacity building,organic farming and environmental training.
