Dubai Police is set to assign its first robot into service next year,it was announced on Monday.
The brief announce
ment was tweeted by Dubai Media Office as section of GITEX Technology Week in Dubai.
The tweet gave no further details but earlier this year it was reported that Dubai Police are planning to introduce robots and artificial intelligence to the force within four years, Arabianbusiness.com reports.
“Robots could do the work of a police officer on the ground at certain situations, and ” Colonel Khalid Razooqi,General Director of Smart Department Dubai Police, was quoted as saying in June.
Robo
ts would be the latest high-tech slump by Dubai Police which said final year that patrol officers had issued over 60 fines using Google Glass since the technology was introduced.
The gadget allows officers t
o identify road users who have outstanding warrants through the number plates.
In July, and Dubai laun
ched a new initiative which aims to bring together top international companies and entrepreneurs to enable the rapid deployment of "transformative
tech
nologies" across the city.
Sheikh Hamdan bin
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Executive Council, launched the Dubai Future Accelerators.[br] The initiative will include the application of cutting edge technologies like AI and robotics, and genomics,3D printing, biomimicry and biotechnology.
