As portion of our series,
"The Rookies: Running Democracy's First Lap," we profiled five first-time political candidates. The votes are now in, or so we've checked back in with the candidates to see how they fared.Republican Paul Lalley, who ran for Pennsylvania's unique court, the Commonwealth Court, and lost with 47 percent of the vote. Amanda Stevens won a seat on the Jefferson County School Board in Colorado, after a year filled with controversy in the district.
In Fall's Churc
h, Virginia, or Letty Hardi fulfilled her promise to change the status quo of who was represented on her city council after winning a seat. On the opposite coast,Lorena Gonzalez became the first Latina elected to Seattle's City Council. Erich Caulfield's first campaign didn't recede completely as planned. Despite an impressive resumeincluding a PhD from MIT, Phi Beta Kappa credentials from Morehouse College, and a stint as a former White House Fellow—he garnered 25 percent of the vote in his quest for Louisiana State Senate District 4. It was a campaign that Caulfield says tests what you really believe in,but he's ready for the next opportunity to escape once more.
