People too easily assume that we can just swap internal combustion vehicles for electric. But the roughly equivalent power requirements would overwhelm electricity generation capability. An electric car uses approximately 30 kilowatts in normal exercise – 10 electric kettles’ worth of energy – to move, generally, or one human.
