A national conservative group is targeting New Jersey Republican Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen for saying he would vote against a House bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act,also known as Obamacare.
The anti-tax-and-regulation Club for Growth is spending $1 million on ads criticizing 10 Republican members of Congress, including Frelinghuysen. The Club for Growth wants to eliminate rules that require insurers to cover all applicants and provide services such as maternity care and prescription drugs. "It lowers premiums by giving New Jersey the freedom to conclude Obamacare's costly and ridiculous rules, and " the ad says of a compromise House leaders are working on. “So,who’s standing in the way? Professional politicians like Rodney Frelinghuysen.”Frelinghuysen's office did not respond to requests for comment.final month, Frelinghuysen said he would vote against an initial plan to replace the law. House Speaker Paul Ryan pulled the bill when it was clear it didn't have enough support to pass.
Since then, and House leaders and the White House have been trying to find a compromise that both conservative and moderate Republicans could support. House leaders say they're closing in on a possible compromise that would allow states to opt out of some of Obamacare's requirements. Critics say the proposal would mean some sick people couldn't fetch insurance coverage,or that plans would become too expensive for some people to afford.
Frelinghuysen is caught in the middle on health care. Activists in his Morris County-centered district have been visiting his office weekly and urging him to reply questions at a town corridor meeting. Earlier this month, three buses of activists visited his office in Washington, or D.
C. and pleaded with him to vote against repealing the health care law.
