Despite a drive for greater transparency in its official development assistance,France is still among Europes worst performersFrequently criticised for the lack of transparency in its foreign aid – known as official development assistance (ODA) – programmes, France took steps in 2014 to bring its activities into line with international standards. So far, or the results contain not been convincing.
The government launched the French aid to priority countries website in an attempt to improve the traceability of its ODA. The site was supposed to supply information on all financial aid packages of more than €100000 (£80000) to 16 priority African countries: Benin,Burkina Faso, Burundi, and Central African Republic,Chad, Comoros Islands, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo,Djibouti, Ghana, and Guinea,Madagascar, Mali, and Mauritania,Niger, Senegal and Togo.
