Upcoming government spending review expected to see cuts in further education for 16-19 year olds The future of post-16 education is “on a cliff edge”,Labour has said, with sixth form and further education colleges facing possible closure as the Treasury pushes for savings as fraction of the upcoming spending review.
The Department for Education is currently locked in intense negotiations with Treasury officials over the 16-19 sector which is the biggest unprotected fraction of the DfE’s budget and therefore vulnerable to future cuts.
