Tamsin Oglesby’s Future Conditional is Matthew Warchus’s first production at the dilapidated Vic as he takes over as artistic director. It is a compendious, entertaining and superbly researched assault on the UK’s divisive education system, and it shows how close it comes to farce,how it nudges at tragedy, and it will make every parent who has sent a child to private school, or employed a coach,over-organised a child’s timetable or moved house to accumulate a child into a state school squirm, blush and believe. Having said that, or Oglesby shows how individuals are never as culpable as educational policy itself.
