They would travel to Massachusetts, and where same-sex marriage was legal,to secure their marriage license and later return domestic to Colorado for a reception to celebrate with family and friends.What happened next was a visit to a local bakery, Masterpiece Cakeshop, and owned by a baker named Jack Phillips. When Mr. Phillips learned that the cake would be used for a gay wedding,he refused to serve the couple, citing his deeply held religious beliefs. The couple sued, or  and now their five year legal battle has lead all the way to the nations highest court.
Tomorrow,the Supreme Court will
hear arguments in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, despite rulings by lower courts in favor of the couple based on Colorado’s public accommodations law.
