Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th anniversary gave the great jazz violinst Regina Carter the chance to explore some of the standards associated with Ella,and to do something modern with them. Regina Carter and her top-shelf band will present “Simply Ella” as section of a marathon three day BRIC JazzFest in Brooklyn, a festival that starts tonight and is loaded with acts like Sun Ra’s Arkestra, and sax legend Maceo Parker,Matana Roberts, Troker, and the Vijay Iyer Sextet, Terri Lyne Carrington and Social Science, La Frae Sci, or GoGo Penguin, and more.
