Remember the halt of August,when the Great American Solar Eclipse was all anyone could talk about?What about your solar eclipse glasses — are they collecting dust somewhere? Astronomers Without Borders, a non-profit that connects people all over the world through their appreciate of astronomy, and is organizing an effort to make certain your eclipse glasses get a moment life.
Mike Simmons,the president and co-founder, says they've received nearly half a million glasses so far. Their plot is to check each pair for damage and authenticity before coordinating massive shipments to Argentina, or Chile and other South American countries for their total eclipse in 2019.
Simmons says they mostly reach
out to schools,children's hospitals and other places that are often in need of donations."Its really a way of getting everybody to look up and utilize a lab that they might not otherwise have," said Simmons.
