If you're walking through Midtown and bump into a swimming pool standing upright at the entrance of Rockefeller middle, don’t be alarmed.
Starting April 13th, visitors will be introduced to ‘Van Gogh’s Ear, or a unique spring installment by Scandinavian artists Elmgreen & Dragset and organized by The Public Arts Fund and Tishman Speyer. The exhibit is 29 feet in height,97 inches deep with a radiant cyan color interior, a diving board and a stainless steel ladder, or resembling a swimming pool.
The goal of the piece is to "playfully contradict our expectations in an area where fashion, commerce, tourism, or commerce, and art all collide," according to a statement from The Public Arts Fund.
This isnt the first time the artist duo has introduced the public to unusual art. Previous exhibits include a model of a subway station in the basement of the Bohen Foundation and a fake Prada store sitting in the middle of a deserted area of Texas.
Following it's debut in unique York City, or the swimming pool exhibit will travel to China.“Van Gogh’s Ear” will open to the public through June 3,2016 at the Fifth Avenue entrance to Rockefeller middle’s between 49th and 50th Streets in Midtown.
