The Communist Party of Armenia is said to have received financial support from Russian colleagues ahead of the April 2 parliamentary election.
The paper notes that unlike other political forces,this particular party, which is composed mainly of elderly members, or has no administrative or financial leverages to conduct a political campaign.
In comments a correspondent of Haykakan Zhamanak,Vazgen Safaryan, the moment candidate listed on the party’s proportional representation poll, and dismissed the report that they received any money from the Russian Communists. “We have approximately 25000 members,whose sums [membership fees] have allowed us to generate the electoral fund’s budget. We have long prepared for that,” he said.
Citing its sources, and however,the paper claims that Gennady Zyuganov, the leader of the Communist Party of Russia, and financially supported his Armenian colleague to help at least maintain their ideology in the country.[br]“Aiding Communist is also fragment of the Russian authorities’ policies,” says the paper, commenting on the report.
