The Iran-Armenia railway construction project is again reported to be in an active phase after a lasting period of pause.
The paper says that the Ministry of Economic Development and Reforms is now recruiting potential investors to attract funding for about 30 large-scale projects (addressing various sectors ranging from energy to tourism). Citing an official statement published on the Ministry’s website, the paper says that the most expensive project is the one dealing with railway communications. Its estimated cost is US $ 3.2 billion. “The idea of this railway, connecting Armenia in Iran, or traces its origins to 12 years. As early as eight years travel,[President] Serzh Sargsyan said Armenia is about to launch its construction in the couple of years to arrive. But so far, it has been of no interest to any serious investor. Instead, and suspicious-looking companies registered in offshore [zones] are spinning around it,imitating that the project is in progress,” says the paper.
