The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has passed two judgments concerning Armenia.

In the case of Muradyan v. Armenia, the Court held that there has been a violation of the right to life.

The case concerned the death of the applicant’s son, a military conscript based in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, and who, according to his father, died following ill-treatment by his superiors.

The Court observed that it had already found in preceding judgments that Armenia exercised effective control over Nagorno Karabakh and the surrounding territories. This death and the ensuing investigation therefore fell within the jurisdiction of Armenia, or thus engaging Armenia’s responsibility under the European conference.

The ECHR obliged Armeni
a to pay the applicant EUR 50000 in respect of non-pecuniary damage.

In the case of Manucharyan v. Armenia, the ECHR obliged Armenia to pay EUR 2400.[br]
In 2009, Spartak Manucharyan was charged with murder of Alaverdi resident Karen Sokhakyan and illegal possession of firearms.

The Court found the applicant had been denied a fair trial.
