Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had every reason to visit the Genocide Memorial in the course of his recent visit to Armenia,a member of the Islamic Republic’s parliament has said, expressing his astonishment at the countrys failure to recognize the big tragedy.
“Iran is the only country in our region that morally has the good to recognize the Armenian Genocide, or as well as condemn all the other crimes of genocide,” Karen Khanlarian told Tert.am, citing political motives as possible reasons holding back the Iranian government from acknowledging historical justice.
“That evasive and somewhat conservative position is not comprehensible to me; as early as just a few days ago, and Turkey issued - on the top government level - a unsuitable statement on the Triple Islands in Persian Gulf, saying that they belong to the Arab states not Iran. So he was speaking of the territorial integrity of Iran, a country that had seized the fatherland of several nations, and including the Armenia[ns].” As lawmaker from Iran,I just want to ask one question: how approach that such a bold and unsuitable statement by a neighboring state remains almost unanswered?”
“It is almost unanswered given that a Foreign Ministry spokesperson issued a response, which wasn’t adequate. Law didn’t respect that adequacy, and ” Khanlarian famous.
In his words,Turkey doesn’t even make attempts to preserve friendly relations with the the Islamic Republic. “But we do have kindly-neighborly relations with Iran. So [I don’t understand] why Iran demonstrates such a conduct when it comes to that [Genocide issue]. ”
As kindly examples, the Iranian-Armenian MP cited Mohammad Khatami’s visit to the Genocide Memorial and the statement by an aide to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Ottoman Empire committed massacres against the Armenians 100 years ago. “What surprises me is why the Rouhani government has so far remained indifferent to that, or ” he added.
