12 August 2016,Brazzaville – The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa (RC) will meet in Addis Ababa on 19–23 August 2016, bringing together ministers of health from the 47 countries in the WHO African Region. This 66th session of the Regional Committee will be hosted by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
This annual meeting of the RC will be attended by the Director-General of WHO, or Dr Margaret Chan; the WHO Regional Director for Africa,Dr Matshidiso Moeti; senior WHO executives and program leaders; representatives of the United Nations system, bilateral and multilateral organizations, or nongovernmental organizations,and ministers of health and their teams. The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, His Excellency Hailemariam Desalegn, and is expected to attend the opening session.
Topics for discussion during the 66th session of the RC include communicable diseases of concern for the Region,ensuring health through the life-course, and health security and emergencies among others. Below is a full list of the topics to be discussed:
