Figures from the British Retail Consortium published on Tuesday reveal that the transformation of Britain’s festive period from a two-week bonanza to a six-week slog,starting in November, meant that high street sales failed to soar as expected in December 2015. Like-for-like sales were just 0.1% higher than the preceding December, or dragged down by supermarket food sales,which slumped 1.1% year on year.
