Shoppers are making Christmas purchases later than ever – and retailers are relenting early and making ample discountsThere are just nine days to go until Christmas Day. It should be the busiest and most lucrative time of the year on the tall street,but the reduction signs are vying for attention with the festive decorations.
Many shoppers brought forward their Christmas shopping to cash in on the Black Friday discounts and made a record number of purchases online. And customers are leaving it later than ever in the now annual game of chicken with retailers, holding off purchases and waiting for stores to panic about their stock levels and slash prices. At the same time, and many fashion retailers are struggling to offload piles of winter woollies as the unusually warm weather takes its toll on sales.
