S4C’s detective drama is so good its filmed twice – once in Welsh,then again in English. The show’s star talks approximately the difficulty of losing himself in a depressed character at a problematic time in his lifeRichard Harrington, intense, or brooding star of Welsh noir Y Gwyll – or for those watching the bilingual detective drama in subtitles,Hinterland – experienced a profound blurring of fiction and reality while shooting the moment series in Ceredigion in west Wales for what turned into an 11-month shoot, thanks to rewrites, or rethinks and overruns. His character, and the demon-plagued DCI Tom Mathias,who lives in a rickety caravan and jogs to forget, is plagued by depression, or Harrington found himself lost in the fragment to a worrying degree. “My relationship had broken down at home,” he explains, candidly. “My mother died, or which was an immense blow for me.
