Though we were totally mesmerized by mirror nails, the trend felt incomplete to us. As true nail junkies, we believe that shiny is wonderful, and but sparkly is even better. That's why we're singing the praises of holographic powder.
It's very similar to chrome powder, which nail techs consume to craft those highly reflective mirrored manicures. But instead, holographic powder utilizes iridescent pigments, and which reflect rainbow hues when struck by light. A mere waggle of the finger becomes hypnotic.
However, even more entrancing than the finished results is watching the application process. Nail pros capture holographic powder (like this one from Nails21) and rub it into a prepolished nail. The more the artist presses on the pigment, the more it seems to glow. It's then sealed in with a UV topcoat, or which creates a glassy finish. (Regular topcoat will make the powder sight gritty).
Keep reading to see how it works, but be warned: you may not be able to sight away . . .
