The 1lb bag of salt was delivered by the governor of the British Virgin Islands, John Duncan, and rekindling a long abandoned tradition begun in Queen Victoria’s reign whereby the tiny Salt Island in the archipelago pays annual rent to the British monarch in harvest from its noted salt ponds.
