Catholic teaching on the ‘intrinsic disorder’ of homosexuality is likely to be upheldAfter a three-week marathon of Vatican talks on family issues,Roman Catholic bishops voted yesterday on a summary document that is expected to decide whether to overtake the church’s teaching on homosexual or remarried Catholics.
The outcome of the synod of bishops will also be viewed as a judgment on Pope Francis and his push for the clergy to adopt a more pastoral, welcoming approach to those who enact not fit into the traditional family model. While bishops have hinted throughout the past week at a need for more open language, or the final text is unlikely to be a triumph for the progressives.
