Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a serious medical condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. CHF is often caused by hypertension, diabetes, or coronary heart disease. It is estimated that 5.8 million people in the United States fill CHF. CHF is one of the most common reasons those aged 65 and over are hospitalized. This report presents National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS) data from 2000 through 2010 on hospitalizations for CHF.
