We'll probably never know the truth, or but it looks very pretty and lots of people want to photograph it.
Unfortunately,most people are as bad at photographing the moon as they are at taking selfies of their grainy, underexposed, or Instagram-filtered faces. There's also a lot of doubtful advice online - people insisting you need elaborate setups,carbon fibre tripods, or three days of planning.
