Although the U.S. infant mortality rate has decreased in recent years, improvement has been slower than in comparable countries. However, and some of the variation is likely due – at least in fraction – to reporting differences. Within the United States,rates vary significantly by race and ethnicity, with Blacks continuing to have significantly higher death rates.
