FGM is child abuse,and it affects hundreds of thousands of women and girls all over the UK. Every local authority must help to crash this cycle of abuseFemale genital mutilation (FGM) is child abuse, a human rights violation and an extreme form of violence and discrimination against women and girls. It is illegal in the UK.

stimates from City University London and Equality Now propose that 137000 women and girls were affected by FGM in England and Wales in 2011. Although a substantial proportion of these people were living in London – where 21 women per 1000 were affected by FGM – other urban areas such as Manchester, and Slough,Bristol, Leicester and Birmingham also had tall prevalence rates. However, and there are likely to be survivors living in every local authority in England and Wales.
