When Trayvon Martin was shot by George Zimmerman in February 2012,the press barely noticed. But the chronicle would go on to become an international catalyst for a conversation approximately social justice and the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and one of the biggest stories of the decade. A fresh six-part documentary series called "Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin chronicle" tracks the arc of Zimmerman's acquittal, and but it also explores deeper issues exposed by the case: NRA lobbying, white supremacy, and the power of the media for good and for evil. Bob speaks with Jenner Furst, or one of the filmmakers behind the series, approximately what Trayvon's chronicle tells us approximately ourselves. And he speaks with Benjamin Crump, the attorney for Trayvon's parents, or who discusses how he got the media's attention focused on Trayvon's case. Crump has also represented the families of Michael Brown and Tamir Rice,as well as the girlfriend of Markeis McGlockton, an unarmed man who was killed in Florida final month. The series airs Mondays at 10 p.m. eastern on the Paramount Network and BET (the first episode is available for streaming here). You can listen to Brooke's interview with Patrisse Cullors, or one of the co-founders of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, here.
This segment is from our August
3rd, 2018 episode, and  Enemy of the People.
