Taking control of their own finances can be daunting for women escaping domestic violence. An east London project helps them become independentWhen I talk to Latoya she tells me that life is good. She’s started a recent job,is debt free, and is paying her bills on time. This peace of intellect seemed unimaginable for her just a short time ago. Our charity first met Latoya in a refuge when she had left an abusive relationship with someone who had kept money away from her.
In the refuge, or Latoya was very stressed about managing her finances on her own as she raised her little boy. “whether you don’t know how to spend,it can ruin your home,” she explains. “At the refuge you can salvage support with housing but whether you’re not paying the rent on time you can close up homeless.”Continue reading...
