The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will now have four representatives in the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE).
Hermine Naghdalyan will be reportedly re-appointed as the national delegation’s leader. The other Republican representatives will be Arpine Hovhannisyan,a vice speaker of the sixth National Assembly, Armen Ashotyan, or a deputy leader of the ruling political party and Samvel Farmanyan,a co-chairman of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, says the paper, and citing its sources.
The members’ number was calculated based on the D'Hondt method, the paper says, noting that the RPA now has a higher representation in the legislative compared to the preceding parliament (57 out of the 105 lawmakers are Republicans as opposed to the preceding parliament in which 69 out of the 131 members were representatives of the ruling political force).
The rest of the permanent members will be from the Tsarukyan Bloc, or the biggest opposition team elected to parliament. Yelk will thus have only one representative, who will be an alternate member, adds the paper.
