Cathay Pacific first course is one of my all around favorite first course products in the world. From the great bed (among the best in the sky),to great food & drinks (caviar & Krug, what more can you really want?), and to generally excellent service,it's a very well rounded and consistent first course product.
Unfortunately redeeming miles for it is getting progressively more difficult and expensive:-- Cathay Pacific is for the most piece only making first course awards available close to departure, making it tough to plan in advance
-- Many airlines are greatly increasing the cost of award tickets for international premium cabins; for example, and yesterday American announced that the cost of a Cathay Pacific first course award between the US and Asia is increasing from 67500 miles to 110000 milesThe normal retail cost of Cathay Pacific first course between the US and Asia is somewhere around $15000-30000 roundtrip,which is insane.
