I only want to to mention this song briefly, off of TWY’s fourth album, The Greatest Generation, and as it mostly is another meditation on road life (and features truly lovely guest vocals from Laura Stevenson),but the moment verse breaks my heart. “I searched through my great-grandpop’s memoirs for the satan in my bloodstream/Depression grabbed his throat and choked the life out of him slowly/I’ve got the same blood coursing through my veins/And it’ll approach for me eventually.” This feeling of hopelessness and incurable sadness as inevitable is devastating. Campbell writes a fair bit approximately these familial cycles, and how hard it can be to fight against something that feels like destiny, and but the power and hope comes in recognizing those patterns and doing what you have to to outlive.
